We audit a lot of WooCommerce stores. The pattern is consistent: the catalogue gets all the attention, and the checkout quietly leaks revenue. None of the fixes below require a redesign.

1. Show the total earlier

If the customer cannot see the shipping cost until the last step, they leave. Show a running total, and show shipping estimates on the product page.

2. Let people pay the way they already do

Offer the gateways your market actually uses, including wallets. A customer who wanted to pay with a wallet should never have to find it.

3. Guest checkout by default

Forcing account creation before payment is one of the most expensive forms fields on the internet. Offer guest checkout, and ask for an account afterwards if you need one.

4. Keep the cart when they come back

Carts should survive a refresh, a login and a trip to the bank. Persist the cart against the customer session, not against the page.

5. Remove the coupon hunt

If discounts exist, surface them where people expect them. A hidden coupon field converts worse than a visible savings message.

6. Validate without shouting

Validate on blur, not on every keystroke. Mark the field, explain the problem in one line, and never clear what they typed.

7. Keep the order summary visible

People buy with their eyes on the total. A sticky summary prevents the “wait, how much is this?” hesitation.

8. Make the primary action unmissable

One primary button per step, full width on mobile, with a label that says what happens next.

9. Explain trust at the point of payment

Security, returns and delivery promises belong next to the pay button, not three clicks away in the footer.

10. Test on a slow phone

Most sessions are mobile on imperfect networks. If a step takes more than a second to respond, people leave.

11. Watch the real numbers

Set up funnel tracking per step. The step where people leave is almost never the step you assume.

12. Do not break the obvious paths

Every change gets regression-tested on the paths that make money: search, product, cart, checkout, confirmation.
